We’re an ever-optimistic bunch here at Hathersage Social Club, and we’re not going to let some rubbish weather put us off planning for the bountiful spring months. This is a lovely time of year, where barren trees are sneaking into bud, the birds turn up the volume on their song and watery sunshine starts to grace us with a teeny, welcome splash of warmth.
Spring is a time of change, and there have been some lovely developments planned over our mini break – we’re back and ready to roll! Lucy is now a fearsome bionic woman (shoulder surgery involving metal pins… best not to ask), Alfie has been flexing his cocktail-testing muscles again, and Simon’s brought some delicious new and old favourites to our spring menu. Why not plan a visit to us soon?
Now’s the time of year where guests might start to choose an outdoor table in our lovely garden (as long as the rain holds off) – blankets and cushions are available for these bold adventurers should they need them. That said, we’ll still be at the ready inside with cosy candles and a lovely playlist in case gale-force winds decide to call by. Doggy friends are always welcome both inside AND outside, and we might even sneak them a meaty treat if they’re good – with extra slices for impressive facial hair.
So what will you choose to eat? Our classic brunch specials like the Aligot Brunch and Huevos Rancheros will see you through the morning, with lighter choices like the Bee’s Knees and luxurious Queenies’ poached salmon and soft scrambled eggs making a grand return. Paired with our punchy, smooth Dark Woods Crow Tree coffee, you’ll soon be bright-eyed and bushy tailed again.
As usual, we’ll be serving our famous waffles all the live-long day – the new kid on the block, the ‘Banana Boat’, is going down a storm. When you catch a glimpse of it, piled high with peanut butter, ice cream, toasted nuts and muscovado banana, you’ll see why. With all that fruit, it’s basically one of your five a day, so you can munch and feel virtuous too (did you know all our waffles are calorie-free?)*

Our lunch menu has also had a bit of a spruce up – the famous Seafood Plate is a medley of fresh crab, griddled salmon and those unctuous smoked garlic prawns, while Greek Pork, Fillet Steak and the lovely Roast Vegetable Stack are also back, to cheers all round. Our gorgeous burgers and ever-changing daily specials complete the picture – take a sneaky peek at our full spring menu here. If you’re more of a grazer or if you simply can’t decide, you’d do well to check out our Basque Pintxos Platters, full of luxurious tapas-sized treats from the sea and land. Take your pick from treats like Leon chorizo and quail’s eggs, rare beef with chimichurri and griddled halloumi with homemade sunblush pesto, and build your own platter by choosing your fave three or diving headlong into all six. The latter is served with approving nods from the staff – that’s what we like to see!
Upstairs in our cosy bar, Alfie’s been hunkered down creating the perfect spring cocktail menu (with plenty of testing and sampling too… it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it). We’ve been adding to our repertoire of lovely, cooling G&Ts with plenty of fresh fruit (perfect to cool down after a local walk!), and the short but punchy, fresh and zingy Cumbertini is back for a victory lap. If you’re after something a bit longer, our Mardi Gras-inspired Fat Tuesday is a chilled, rummy delight.
All in all, we’re feeling very well prepared for the springtime and ready to welcome the sunshine and flowers out in the Club garden. We’ll be striding out into the sunshine, bleary-eyed, a little heavier from our winter indulgence – and rearing to go. See you soon! The Club xx
