Cassanova, it’s claimed, breakfasted on 50 of them, the Romans saw them as the UK’s most valued natural assets and they are one of the most nutrionally well balanced foods. We love a great Oyster at the Hathersage Social Club and are really pleased to have a brilliant supplier in Tristan’s company Rossmore Oysters. They have regularly won the Award of Best Native Oysters in Scotland.
Origiinally, given to the Wallace family by King William III, the Loch Ryan oyster beds are centuries old. Tristan has been farming them for nearly 20 years now.
The UK once had an abundance of native oysters but they are now relatively scarce, only being farmed in a small number of protected areas. You’re far more likely to come across the rock oysters than the flat native oysters that we order in to the Club.
