On a dark February evening, every two years, the villagers of Slaithwaite in the Coln Valley gather by the canal. A huge paper lantern in the shape of a crescent moon floats down the canal on a small barge. Some with huge rakes pull the moon to the bank and gnomes with long beards land the moon with an old wooden crane.
The ‘captured’ moon is paraded round the village, accompanied by a procession all carrying their own paper, candle lit lanterns. They climb up the steep bank to Hilltop and then down into the heart of the village for food, drink and dancing.
I haven’t been let loose on the magic mushrooms, this really happens and will next take place in February 2021
Couth & Wurstlin love building on traditions, finding ways of bringing the crowd together and making sure there is amazing food and drink at the heart of what we do. If you think we could help you design and deliver and event do get in touch.
