You know that feeling when you find somewhere you love so much that you find every opportunity and any old excuse to go. We’ve gone hundreds of miles out of our way, got up at the crack of dawn and planned holidays around Rileys Fish Shack and never once regretted it rain or shine. You can’t book you just have to take your chances and, at busy times, queue. And they do, queue in fine or foul weather – it’s THAT damn good.
Based on King Edwards Bay in Tynemouth it’s the best casual dining experience we’ve ever had (and we’re including our travels around the world). The food is amazing, the vibe is so laid back it’s horizontal, it’s on a fantastic beach, it’s always playing the best soundtrack for the occasion. Made out of two shipping containers and with more than a little ingenuity, Rileys Fish Shack has a small glass indoor seating area with wood fires, an outside covered terrace, with wood fires and then in fine weather day and evening it extends onto the beach with deckchairs gathered around wood fires. To top it all off it cooks its ridiculously fresh catch menu over charcoal or in ….yep, wood burning ovens. OMG, it’s incredible
Breakfast on kedgeree or Craster Kipper with great coffee or a Bucks Fizz or lunch/supper on spiced monkfish wraps or amazing homemade empanadas made with homemade sourdough and served with salad and great sauces.
This is the a gem of a business that grew out of a seasoned street-food offering from a couple passionate about local ingredients, cooked brilliantly and served with care and love. A business that’s partnered with a local brewery and the local fishermen, that crowdfunded to establish their base on the beach and that is loved by locals, visitors and critics.
We love everything about Riley’s. We urge you to find any old excuse to go. We promise you won’t be disappointed.
